America is a nation built on ideals and ideas. Among the highest of those is the promise of the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We call this the American Dream. Yet, millions of Americans are left out and live what could be called the American Nightmare. However, there have always been brave men and women who speak out against injustice and call the nation back to its highest self.
Today, Operation HOPE is at the forefront of one of the most defining issues of our generation—financial dignity through financial literacy. We aren’t the first to fight for this cause, and we most certainly won’t be the last. But we are sounding alarm, raising awareness, and leading with action in this phase, which I’m calling the Third Reconstruction.
During this Third Reconstruction we’re not asking for our right to be, nor are we asking to get a seat at the table. We’re calling on all Americans everywhere, especially those who have historically been left out of economic progress, to make their own chairs and tables, while we call on the establishment to lengthen the table. We’re not calling on America’s citizens to ask for a handout, we’re simply giving people a hand up. We’re not asking for entitlement checks, we’re working to create opportunity so that our communities can begin writing the checks ourselves.
