I recently had a conversation with my friend Roland Martin on his show, #RolandMartinUnfiltered, about homeownership in Black America. The conversation stemmed from a tweet I posted that I thought most people agreed on by consensus. Turns out I was wrong.
Why folks — including many dignified black and brown folks who look like me — who argue AGAINST homeownership — are just plain wrong. And why we need to knock it off. All in 2 minutes.

Unfortunately, many of us have not learned the different between good debt and bad debt and the power of owning assets in this country. Roland and I have a good conversation and a friendly “debate” about it. But I’m convinced and can testify to the fact that homeownership is one of the primary wealth building tools we have in America. It has been for generations and will continue to be so. Check it out and tell me what you think in the comments below. Then head to www.operationhope.org to find a HOPE homeownership coach near you to help you get into your own home so you can begin to build wealth for you and your family.
