I recently appeared on CNN Newsroom with Fredricka Whitfield to talk about the April 2019 jobs report from the U.S. Labor Department. The report showed that the U.S. added 263,000 jobs last month. The unemployment rate fell to 3.6%, a new 50-year low.
While these numbers are great for the economy, I wanted to stress that even though the growth seems to be real, we aren’t acknowledging that there is also an unbelievable gap. 40 percent of all jobs are going to disappear in the near future because of automation and AI technology. This becomes more noticeable when looking at the disparity between people of color and their white counterparts.
When white America has a headache, black and brown America gets pneumonia… but we’re all sick. Let’s get serious about building up all communities throughout the country. Let’s use these positive numbers as leverage for growing the middle class. Let’s create internships and other training opportunities. Click HERE to watch the full interview on my YouTube channel.
