I am very honored to see Operation HOPE partnering with the Atlanta Police Department, the Atlanta Police Foundation and Atlanta Police Chief George Turner on a groundbreaking partnership to bring the HOPE Inside model — literally inside Atlanta Police Department Headquarters, in downtown Atlanta. This is part of our larger, soon to be announced, Atlanta Uplift 2020 plan for my and our home city.
One of the biggest problem a police department faces, behind fighting crime and enforcing the law on a just basis, is fighting the financial instability of its sworn personnel. Many don’t look at police officers, as ‘people,’ but they most certainly are — and they face in their own lives, many of the same challenges that you and I face in our own lives. And financial issues – particularly those impacting the home front and family — can cause challenges back at the job.
The HOPE Inside @Atlanta Police Department, which will be more formally announced and introduced during our HOPE Global Forum Annual Meeting 2016, where Chief George Turner is scheduled to speak, will address both the financial stability issues of officers, non-sworn APD personnel and by extension their families, it will also address the hopes and aspirations of officers, non-sworn personnel and their families.
The HOPE Inside location will help with things like purchasing a home (the office will be HUD certified), right here in the city of Atlanta, where they work, or creative ways to save more money, receive more benefits, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), helping their kids to plan for college (which is expensive for everyone these days), and even after retirement, maybe starting their own small business to enhance their income and earning power.
The HOPE Inside @Atlanta Police Department is sponsored by SunTrust Banks and the U.S. Economic Development Administration, is a direct partnership between Operation HOPE and the Atlanta Police Foundation. A special thank you to Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, Atlanta Police Chief George Turner, Dave Wilkinson, CEO of the Atlanta Police Foundation, Bill Rogers, Chairman & CEO of SunTrust Banks, and EDA Assistant Secretary Jay Williams, along with Phil Paradice, Regional Director for the U.S. EDA.

Let’s go…
