A Provocative Interview: Dr. Boyce Watkins and John Hope Bryant
John Hope Bryant is the CEO of Operation HOPE. In this conversation, Bryant and Dr. Watkins discuss the legacy of civil rights in the black community. According to Bryant, African Americans are missing the point on how wealth building occurs in America, and seem to forget that much of what we refer to as racial problems in America are actually linked to poverty and economic inequality.
Bryant is the author of the best-selling book, "How the Poor can Save Capitalism," and has worked for years to help eradicate economic inequality through a commitment to business ownership and financial literacy.
According to Bryant, Dr. Martin Luther King truly became dangerous to America once he started to talk about the economic problems in this country. The best way to continue Dr. King's work might be to re-engage a commitment to wealth building and ownership that allows black people to take a piece of the American economic pie.
