CAPE TOWN, South Africa–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Business bestselling author and Operation HOPE Founder, Chairman and CEO John Hope Bryant’s “Love Leadership” philosophy came under the spotlight at the Global Forum hosted by Fortune, Time and CNN here 26-28, June.

“An empowered worker, one with the life skills to manage their financial future is the most stable performer for any company. Retaining and developing talent within an organisation has many challenges – economic, logistical, cultural… but one thing that supersedes them all is what I call ‘Love Leadership’” said Bryant.

He was participating in the session “The Quest for Talent” focused on the empowerment of a self sufficient, sustainable, talented work force. Delegates and panelists zeroed in on strategies that could help developing companies and nations develop skilled workers and empower them with the tools they need to survive in our current global economy.

“An empowered worker, one with the life skills to manage their financial future is the most stable performer for any company. Retaining and developing talent within an organisation has many challenges – economic, logistical, cultural… but one thing that supersedes them all is what I call ‘Love Leadership’,” noted Bryant.

“In a nutshell, Love Leadership focuses on what you have to give, not what you have to get; and it’s running your organisation with passion and sincerity. Leaders make mistakes, but when those who support you see that you are genuine, they are more likely to forgive you for those mistakes.”

Bryant was joined on stage by l. Kevin Kelly, the CEO of global leadership advisory firm Heidrick & Struggles and Johan van Zyl, Group Chief Executive of the Sanlam Group. The session was moderated by Fortune magazine’s Senior Editor at Large, Geoff Colvin.

The Global Forum event has become a major international conference since its inception in 1995. This year’s conference featured President Jacob Zuma; former US President Bill Clinton; former Prime Minister of Pakistan H.E. Shaukat Aziz; and Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu among many other dignitaries, politicians and international business leaders.

While in South Africa, John Hope Bryant will join Archbishop Tutu in Cape Town to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between Operation HOPE and the Anglican Church of Southern Africa. The ceremony will also commemorate the third anniversary of the HOPE’s financial literacy and empowerment programme, Banking on Our Future in South Africa
