The great “arranger” Quincy Jones – my friend, mentor, and one of the greatest minds and talents of the last 100 years has now joined the angels – he’s been promoted. Typically, I feel sadness when friends of mine pass. But this man LIVED—every moment. The memories and lessons are too long to detail here, but a lot of the success I – and Operation HOPE – have achieved is directly attributable to my relationship with Q.
Memories are ultimately currency – they’re wealth in another format. When I was looking to jumpstart an ambitious program to educate 5 million kids and families about financial literacy (to make smart sexy again), the plan needed entertainers to help advocate for it. I called the only entertainment superstar I knew, and Quincy immediately said, “How can I help?” Like he did for so many others and so many other causes.
He embodied the power of a loving heart, and the world shined brighter because he was here. He poured love into everyone he encountered, and we were all better because of him. We traveled the world together, and now he’s traveling the universe, pouring love into those yet to be born. We love you, Quincy.
