This past Tuesday, May 5th, 2020, I had the pleasure to talk with Dr. George C. Fraser live on Facebook. It was an excellent discussion. Click below to watch it now.
Dr. Fraser began with a surprise, reminding me of a book he wrote in 1998 entitled “Race for Success: The Ten Best Business Opportunities for Blacks in America.” On page 96, Dr. Fraser wrote:
“Another person I admire is John Hope Bryant, a young man who was inspired to found Operation HOPE, America’s first non-profit investment banking organization. Bryant told Black Enterprise Magazine that Operation HOPE was his guilt-ridden response to witnessing the riots in South Central Los Angeles after the Rodney King verdict.”
Dr. Fraser quoted me in his book as saying:
“Here I was, a black man who had left his community and had become successful, thinking that discrimination didn’t exist. After watching the buildings burn the night after the verdict, I wanted to, I had to do something.”
I told Dr. Fraser that he doesn’t walk on water, but he
knows where the stones are.
If you don’t know, Dr. Fraser is a bad brother. If you look
up cool in the dictionary, you will see a picture of Dr. Fraser!
You’ve got to watch this video.
We need to become curious, not angry. Anger robs you of the
energy you need to be curious.
I will tell you stories that you have not heard before, including
how I started out, as a bus boy at a restaurant in Malibu, California,
eventually moving up to a waiter on the worst shift they had available.
I didn’t go to college. I learned from mentorship.
Life is not fair and I worked my tail off to get to where I am today.

We need a black Bill Gates or Warren Buffet, more than we
need a black President. I love Barack Obama, I served him as an advisor. He
brought class to the White House.
But, we need a need a black Bill Gates more than we need a
black President.
