Upon reaching an impactful milestone of 10 million viewers of his Straight Talk Video Series, John Hope Bryant sheds light on an example of bad capitalism — private prisons. He explains how private prisons function like businesses, and like other businesses, private prisons seek “customers.” These “customers” hail from the criminal justice system. For a private prison to increase their customer base, they must implement techniques that increase the number of people being sent to prison. This gives way to despicable business practices such as bribery and corruption. Unlike other companies, private prisons do not have the capacity to generate wealth and give back to their community.

“Good selfishness is where I benefit, but everyone else benefits more. Bad selfishness is where I benefit, and everyone else pays a price for it. Practice good selfishness.”
