On Saturday, June 2nd 2012, Operation HOPE and its founder John Hope Bryant were honored with the President's Award from the National Conference of Black Mayors (NCBM) for its work both in community — empowering the constituents of many of the mayor's in question – and in public policy, recently working with NCBM to stand up over 100 new Local Financial Literacy Councils.

The Local Financial Literacy Councils are part of the leadership initiative tied to the Subcommittee on the Underserved and Community Empowerment for the U.S. President's Advisory Council on Finanical Capabilty, which is chaired by businessman John Rogers, and vice chaired by NFTE CEO Amy Rosen. Recommendations from the full Council are presented annually to the President of the United States and the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury.
