Back in 1994, I was honored to be listed amongst the TIME Magazine 50 (Leaders for the Future), which was one of three times in history that TIME Magazine had pulled together its list of potential future leaders.  And while I was honored beyond description by the recognition by a publication of TIME's stature, I was also excited because I felt as though I had met a new friend — and that person was a fellow organizational founder named Wendy Kopp.  Over subsequent years, as Operation HOPE grew and developed and separately, as Wendy's dream for Teach for America grew and developed, Wendy and I would stay connected and in touch; encouraging each other to keep our movements growing, helping, empowering and lifting. For a time I even joined the Teach for America national board.  But Wendy really didn't need much of my counsel, and her success and her impact on the ground is proof positive that her vision has been made real in young people's lives.  Wendy Kopp is a leader for our future, and I am proud to also call her my friend.

When my book, LOVE LEADERSHIP: The New Way to Lead in a Fear-Based World (Jossey-Bass), was about to be published I called Wendy for her advise and counsel, which she freely gave.  Today I am pleased to be able to return the favor and to encourage those I know to pick up Wendy's most recent book, entitled, A Chance to Make History.  The book shares what Wendy has learned over the last twenty years, and quoting my friend,  "…that we can in fact realize educational excellence and equity, and what I think it will take to do that…"

Support Wendy Kopp and the Teach for America movement, and please get a copy of her book.  She has earned the public's support.

Onward with HOPE
