As a result of speaking earlier this week at the annual meeting of Big Brothers & Big Sisters in Columbus, Ohio on the power of role models, mentors and later financial literacy empowerment to change the lives of youth (and the adult mentors too), I received this inspiring note from one of the Project Mentor volunteers, Charlotte, pictured here with her self-esteem rich mentee Armani. Read and be inspired by the authenticity, vulnerability, open and genuine desire to help, empower and even to "understand." A little more of this and we just may change the world…
John:
Good afternoon! It was such a pleasure to be a part of your inspirational presentation today. I hope you don’t mind that I am writing to you. I have been a mentor for over 20 years and have been a part of Project Mentor since its inception. Armani is the student I have been matched with for two years. She loves her African American culture and I think that I help to grow her as far as my culture. However, I wanted to see if you had any suggestions for ways that I could honor her heritage as a mentor through activities, books, etc.
Thanks in advance!
Charlotte
