Cgi_logoA little more than a year after making a commitment to bring financial literacy ("the language of money"), dignity and entrepreneurship to the people of South Africa, I am proud to say that Operation HOPE has indeed fulfilled its commitment to Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) and former President Bill Clinton.

A year later, Operation HOPE has incorporated a local non-profit organization, Operation HOPE of South Africa, raised more than $500,000 (US) for our first year of operations for Banking on Our Future, South Africa, where just this week we have educated our first youth in the program! Our commitment now is to educate a total of 50,000 youth and women in South Africa, to recruit several hundred HOPE Corps volunteers from the professional and middle class ranks of South Africa, and to partner with leaders from government, community and the private sector.

Check out details of our CGI commitment here.

Our partners for Banking on Our Future, South Africa include Citi (our first global partner), Standard Bank, IFC of the World Bank group, the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund, the F.W. de Klerk Foundation, CIDA University, the MEC’s for education for the two key provinces, as well as the South African government. Banking on Our Future, SA is one of the most amazing and inspiring things I have done or been a part of in Operation HOPE’s 15 year history.

Onward with HOPE
