"Traditionally an integrated community, Maplewood (New Jersey) began to see an escalation of white flight in the mid-1990’s. In 1996, the town formed an interracial coalition, which Marchman recently chaired, to address and stem the problem. The group hired a consultant and commenced a marketing campaign to publicize the virtues of living in a diverse community. Result? Property values have risen by almost 50-75 percent. Two years ago Maplewood was named by Money Magazine as one of the top 10 cities (to live in) in the United States."

Robert Marchman, EVP, New York Stock Exchange, and a community leader in Maplewood, New Jersey
