John Hope Bryant unpacks the history that “no one ever taught us” of the Freedman’s Bank Building, after speaking at the first ever Freedman’s Bank Forum at the U.S. Department Of Treasury this morning. The Forum gathered public, private, and nonprofit leaders to discuss strategies to improve jobs, economic opportunity, financial inclusion, and shared prosperity for all communities. In the video, Bryant reveals the history of the Freedman’s Bank Building in Washington, D.C, a bank created by President Lincoln to teach freed slaves about money. John Hope Bryant played an instrumental role in the renaming of The Freedman’s Bank Building from the U.S. Treasury Annex Building.
