In a move destined to become a national model for law enforcement departments across the country, this week Operation HOPE unveiled its newest HOPE Inside model for empowerment — the first ever HOPE Inside located within a police headquarters’ specifically HOPE Inside @ Atlanta Police HQ.
With the full support of Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed and Atlanta Police Chief George Turner, who is the newest board member for the Operation HOPE Southeast Board of Directors, Operation HOPE entered into a landmark partnership with the Atlanta Police Foundation, the Atlanta Police Department, SunTrust Banks and the U.S. Economic Development Administration. The Police Chief found that, next to fighting crime, his next biggest challenge was ‘battling the financial insecurity of his officers.’ Additionally, something like 6% of all Atlanta Police officers filed for bankruptcy last year, which is significantly higher than the national average.
This unique HOPE Inside location, focused exclusively on the financial security, stability and aspirations of the officers and their families, will offer HUD approved financial and homeownership counseling, HOPE 700 Credit Score Communities counseling, EITC certification and a range of additional support services. All services will be provided to officers and their families free of charge, thanks to the support from SunTrust Banks and the U.S. EDA.
This flagship HOPE Inside @Atlanta Police Department Headquarters sits at the center of the recently announce Atlanta Uplift 2020 plan from Operation HOPE, tied to the decision for Operation HOPE to move its global headquarters to Atlanta, Georgia, and to re-invest in its own home city at the same time.
Operation HOPE also operates the HOPE Inside @ Ebenezer Church, Dr. King’s home church for his global ministry, as well as HOPE Inside locations within SUNTRUST Banks, another new HOPE Inside within banking leader BB&T Bank, and a major, $1 million partnership with the Coca-Cola Company to empower women and girls with HOPE Inside and HOPE Business In A Box Academies.
