Arguably the toughest campaign in Dr. King’s life and career, as a civil rights organizer and leader, was his campaign against poverty and economic oppression in Chicago, Il.  Dr. King lived in a run down area, at 1550 S. Hamlin Avenue, and he moved in January 10, 1966, 10 days prior to the date of my birth.

It was there that Dr. King was pelted with bricks, rocks and bats, and was hit in the head with a brick.  The basic shares values that kept people together in southern cities, simply did not exist in northern cities like Chicago. There was no ‘spiritual cohesiveness’ to build upon.

The Chicago campaign, was a run up to his coming ‘People’s Campaign.’
