Freedman’s Bank Tour at the Charles Wright Museum, Detroit, MI

A full house at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African-American History in Detroit warmly received a first ever discussion about the 150th anniversary of the Freedman’s Bank, chartered March 3rd, 1865 by President Abraham Lincoln to ‘teach freed slaves about money.’  I also took the time to connect the history and legacy of the Freedman’s Bank to my now bestselling book, internationally, “How The Poor Can Save Capitalism: Rebuilding the Path to the Middle Class,” which amongst other things, explained ‘why poor people remain poor.’

A special kudos to my HOPE Leaders, including Kevin Boucher, Director of HOPE Global Forums, and Ryan Mack, Market President, for doing a great job organizing the highly engaged (and thus successful) Freedman’s Bank Tour event last night, at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African-American History.

And a very special thank you to my hero, and our HOPE Global Spokesman, civil rights icon Ambassador Andrew Young, who traveled to Detroit for this special event.

The evening was capped off with a feature of local heroes and sheroes who spoke on a Detroit panel, including BankOn founder JoAnn Watson, David Mack, Esq, David Caroll of Quicken Loans, and my new friend Dr. Tonya Allen, CEO of the Skillman Foundation, and moderator and friend Gail Perry-Mason of Oppenheimer Funds.  Check out some of the special images here.
