BIRMINGHAM, AL–Financial education and forging partnerships is the key to eliminating poverty in metro Birmingham.

Being a good corporate citizen to build a better Birmingham is a major reason why Regions has partnered with Birmingham's Protective Insurance to help fund Operation Hope's financial counseling for individuals and small business workshops across the metro area, said Leroy Abrahams, president of Regions' North Central Alabama operations which includes Birmingham.

"As we help people succeed financially, we help our community grow stronger," Abrahams said. "Through Operation Hope and Hope Inside, we are connecting people with the financial skills they need to make informed decisions that will benefit themselves and their families. When one person benefits, or when one family benefits, our entire community benefits."

Abrahams will join Protective Life executives during the 2015 A.G. Gaston Conference Green Power Presentation, "Eliminating Poverty in Birmingham," at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex on Wednesday, February 18 at 10 a.m. Following the panel discussion, the 11:30 a.m. A.G. Gaston Empowerment Luncheon will feature keynote speaker John Hope Bryant, founder of Operation Hope and author of "How the Poor Can Save Capitalism."
