Award furthers nonprofit's national initiative, to empower underserved communities by teaching financial empowerment to youth and adults by 2020, Project 5117

LOS ANGELES – September 29, 2014 – Financial empowerment nonprofit Operation HOPE announced today, a $1,000,000 award from The Department of Justice (DOJ), as part of their Multi-State Mentoring Initiative. The grant will help take HOPE Business In A Box Academies (HBIABA) to scale and dramatically increase the number of HOPE Business Role Models and Business Mentors in six U.S. cities where at risk and unserved youth are present.

The overarching goal of the partnership grant is to create opportunities for at-risk and underserved youth between the ages of 12 and17 who are least likely to have trusting relationships with adults due to a variety of risk factors. This is in direct alignment with HOPE's Project 5117 goal to increase the 5% national average of business role models and internships to 20% by the 2020.

The objective of HBIABA is to ignite a generation of entrepreneurs and “intrapreneurs,” and ultimately lessen income inequality, grow new wealth creation, and stimulate a new era of jobs. HBIABA helps build a foundation of financial knowledge, develop career plans and skills, prepare for productive work, and explore entrepreneurial opportunities through structured and supportive relationships with trusted, caring, community role models.
