Washington DC Financial Literacy Council Logo

During the Bush Administration I was honored to serve as vice-chairman of the first ever U.S. President's Advisory Council on Financial Literacy, and chairman of the Committee on the Under-served.  Our first action of our Subcommittee on the Under-served, I am proud to say, was to encourage creation of the first ever Local Financial Literacy Council.  The Financial Literacy Council of the District of Columbia was the first ever Local Council, and has grown and blossomed under the leadership of my friend Mayor Vincent Gray. There are more than 100 Local Financial Literacy Councils in existence today.

I will speak at the Financial Literacy Council of the District of Columbia this afternoon, updating them on our efforts with Project 5117 at Operation HOPE, and likewise, President Obama's continuing efforts to provide a level of financial capability, financial inclusion and economic empowerment opportunity for all. I was honored to also serve President Barack Obama as the chairman of the Subcommittee on the Under-served and Community Empowerment for his U.S. President's Advisory Council on Financial Capability.
