Building upon the 50th anniversary of Dr. King’s I HAVE A DREAM speech and the historic gathering for “Jobs and Freedom” that happened on August 28, 2013, the 2013 HOPE Global Financial Dignity Summit will focus on ‘Silver Rights’ and the financial inclusion and empowerment of a generation. The last march for jobs and freedom (civil rights) was in the streets; the next movement for jobs and freedom (Silver Rights) will be in the suites. The theme of the 2013 Global Financial Dignity Summit is “Global Economic Recovery: How the Poor Can Help Save Capitalism.”

The Summit is co-hosted by Mayor Kasim Reed and the City of Atlanta, with an expanded mission that is focused on the broader issue of financial inclusion and the economic empowerment of the poor and the underserved. This year’s Global Summit will feature Soledad O’Brien as the Master of Ceremonies. Additionally, Jim Clifton, Chairman and CEO of Gallup, will serve as the opening keynote speaker, where he will talk on his change-agent book THE COMING JOBS WAR, and how youth economic energy can transform America. Following Clifton will be Bill Rogers, Chairman and CEO of SunTrust Banks, the 8th largest bank in America, who will speak on lighting the way to financial wellbeing for communities. More than 50 C-Suite speakers from government, community and the private sector are already confirmed to participate, including leaders from the United States, the Middle East, Europe, Latin America, Africa and Asia. The summit will conclude with a Conversation on Human Dignity led by Global Dignity Co-Founder H.R.H. Crown Prince Haakon of Norway.

Inspired by the third and mostly unfinished component of Dr. Martin L. King, Jr.’s work with the Poor People’s Campaign, organizers position the Global Summit as the Davos-inspired meeting for leaders interested in the empowerment of the poor and the underserved. The Global Financial Dignity Summit will also act as the staging area for the gathering of commitments and best practices for business role models, business internships, youth entrepreneurship business grants, and other commitments for action in underserved communities. All commitments gathered at the Global Summit will be bundled into an overall public commitment by HOPE and its partners and then presented to the Clinton Global Initiatives. The Global Financial Dignity Summit organizers will also issue an annual Summit Report of findings.
