“Mr. Q” shares lessons and inspires students via DVD

Chicago – May 30, 2013 – Nearly 500 students from grades 4-8 at Beasley Academic Center in Chicago participated in Operation HOPE's Banking on Our Future (BOOF) Quincy Jones Celebrity Edition on Friday, May 17th, as the first Chicago area school to participate in the special curriculum. The program, which initially launched in Los Angeles, will eventually be available in classrooms where BOOF is taught nationwide.

Twenty volunteers served as role models in 13 classrooms at the middle school and lead discussions with the students about the new course, which includes modules on: dignity, basics of banking, checking & savings, power of credit and basic investments.

Volunteers shared Quincy Jones' personal stories, his insights and a DVD with an inspirational message from Jones himself for the students. Students were fascinated to learn that "Mr. Q" grew up in Chicago (until he moved to Seattle, WA at age 10) and attended a south side Chicago Public School. When asked what they learned during their BOOF presentations, many of the students commented, "work hard and get an education, so we can be like Quincy Jones."
