Berrett-Koehler Publishers Announce New Book Deal with Operation HOPE Founder

Promises Solution to Economic Stagnation

SAN FRANCISCO, June 25, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ — Ninety-two percent of jobs in the United States are created in the private sector. Capitalism, properly practiced, raises up the poor and creates new consumers, lenders, and entrepreneurs. For capitalism to thrive, the poor and middle class must thrive. My book provides a roadmap for equality of opportunity for all. — John Hope Bryant

1bernankeSan Francisco, CA — Berrett-Koehler Publishers is delighted to announce a new publishing agreement with John Hope Bryant, founder, chairman and CEO of the nonprofit Operation HOPE, member of the President's Advisory Council on Financial Capability, and co-founder of Global Dignity. In the words of former President Bill Clinton, "John Bryant is a 41-year-old whirlwind of ideas and action. Lean, intense, focused, and completely positive in his belief in the potential of poor people to prosper, with 'a hand up and not a hand out.'"Bryant intends to shed light on the fact that theworkingpoor are the best suited tosave capitalism based on their sheer collective size and buying power.

Bryant's book, How The Poor Can Save Capitalism, will publish in May 2014 and will continuethe theme ofhis November 2013Global Dignity Summit. Bryant writes, "This book suggests a new consciousness among successful business leaders: that their true purpose is to empower the poor, the working class and the struggling middle class through capitalism. By creating a virtuous upward cycle, wealth building occurs for all. What we have to do is give the poor real opportunities in the system, and not have them be considered nonessential exiles. When people don't have a stake in a system, they see no purpose in sustaining, protecting, or even participating in it."

Berrett-Koehler editorial director Neal Maillet says, "We are extremely fortunate to land such an impressive leader as Mr. Bryant as an author. John is a powerful mix of vision and idealism, as well as practical business know-how and financial acumen. It's one thing to create a vision, but it's quite another to invest $1.5 billion with that vision, as John has." Capitalism at its best is a union of purpose and passion, and I've found that the goals of Operation HOPE and Berrett-Koehler match up perfectly." Both author and publisher hope this book will help spark an economic revival that works for everyone. But as John proudly says, "This isn't a solution for the 99% or the 1%. This is the answer for the 100%."
