People often ask me "John, how did you do it?" My answer is always the same. I work, hard.

I actually believe that an "entrepreneur is someone who works 18 hours a day to keep from getting a real job." That pretty much sums it up.

Or as the late author Dr. Scott Peck once said, "love is work, non-love is laziness, and anti-love is evil." I believe that there is very little actual human evil in the world today. It exists, but it is very rare. Most people are just, well, lazy. They simply do not want to do the work that success requires.

If you love anything, you are going to have to work at it.

If you love your husband or your wife, you will have to work hard at that relationship to make it work. Often, if you are honest with yourself, you will admit that you feel as if you want a divorce every third Thursday of every second month. But you don't. You hang in there. You hang in there when it is real, because you understand that real love, is showing love when you feel like being loving the least.

If you love your job or career, you will have to work at it; often coming into the office early, and even staying on the job late into the evening. And one's perception of 'fairness' has little to nothing to do with ultimate success in a professional setting. If you take business personal, you will never make it.

If you love something it will take hard work, sacrifice and commitment. Often, it is only this lack of commitment to "doing the work that success requires," that represents your only real barrier to both personal achievement and business success.

Racism is not as formidable a barrier to success as a lack of a commitment to hard work.

Personal bias against you, or even favoritism towards someone else, is not as formidable a barrier to success as a lack of a commitment to hard work.

But what will definitely kill your hopes and dreams, dead in their tracks, is a lack of commitment to hard work.

I have often worked 14-18 hour days over the past 20 years or so, and all the while learning lessons every chance I got, and at every step along the way. Fact is, when you do what you are passionate about, you may get exhausted and even worn out, but you will never be tired.

"God gave me two ears and one mouth for a reason, so that I listened twice as much as I talked."
