SunTrust Banks, Inc. CEO becomes newest “silver rights” ambassador for the financial dignity nonprofit

LOS ANGELES – January 17, 2013 – Operation HOPE (HOPE) was pleased to announce today the appointment of William H. Rogers, Jr., SunTrust Banks, Inc.  Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, to its National Board of Directors. Rogers’s extensive executive experience and commitment to HOPE’s Silver Rights Mission reaffirms the organization’s position as the global leader for financial dignity. Rogers’ appointment is only his latest effort to promote financial dignity with Operation HOPE. 
 
“Through SunTrust, Bill Rogers played a key role in bringing the HOPE Financial Dignity Center Atlanta, at Ebenezer into fruition,” said John Hope Bryant, HOPE Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “We are delighted to have a leader with the expertise and capability that Mr. Rogers brings. His participation will help ensure success for our national as well as international mission to empower underserved communities.” 
 
During his two-year board term, Rogers will provide leadership, guidance and help generate ongoing support for HOPE programs and activities.  He also will be an active member, participating in national and international events to highlight the importance of financial literacy and dignity.  
 
Rogers began his career in 1980 in the commercial bank training program of Trust Company of Georgia, a SunTrust predecessor company.  He subsequently served in a variety of leadership roles  before being named President in 2008 and Chief Operating Officer in 2010.  He was named Chief Executive Officer in June 2011 and assumed the role of Chairman in January 2012.
 
Rogers is a member of the board of directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta and the Atlanta Committee for Progress as well as the board of trustees of the Woodruff Arts Center.  He is chair of the board of directors of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta and a trustee emeritus of The Lovett School.  
Rogers received an MBA from Georgia State University and a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
 
In 2010, SunTrust Bank, Inc. committed $1,000,000 in support of Operation HOPE’s flagship Financial Dignity Center Atlanta, at Ebenezer. SunTrust earned Global Corporate Partner recognition from the United Way in 2011, one of an elite group of  companies in the world to achieve such recognition. Both are examples of SunTrust’s dedication to empower the communities it serves.
