Mayor Reed Headshot

We are pleased to announce that the Honorable Kasim Reed, Mayor of the City of Atlanta, is confirmed as an Honorary Co-Chair for the HOPE Global Financial Dignity Summit scheduled for November 14th-15th, 2012, in Atlanta, Georgia.

Kasim Reed was inaugurated as the 59th Mayor of the City of Atlanta on January 4, 2010. Despite beginning his term facing a $48 million budget shortfall, Mayor Reed has revitalized the city of Atlanta. Under his leadership, the city has had three years of balanced budgets with no property tax increases, and its cash reserves have grown from $7.4 million to more than $100 million. Additionally, Mayor Reed has hired more than 600 police officers and re-opened the city’s recreation centers as safe havens for young people.

Mayor Reed grew up in the Cascade community of Southwest Atlanta and later graduated from Howard University in Washington D.C.  He served 11 years as a member of the Georgia General Assembly, where he established his track record of leadership. Since taking office, Mayor Reed has received numerous accolades.  In May 2012, the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies in Washington D.C. honored him with the Louis E. Martin Great American Award, saying he “heralds a new and creative approach to leadership.”  Mayor Reed was also named as one of the top state and local government officials of the year 2011 by Governing Magazine.
