I am pleased to report that long-time friend and the vice chairman of the Operation HOPE board of directors, Richard 'Rick' Hartnack, Vice Chairman of US Bank, is confirmed to speak at the HOPE Global Financial Dignity Summit in November, 2012.  Rick Hartnack will Co-Chair a Working Group at the summit.

Rick Hartnack has been associated with Operation HOPE for most of its history, starting back in 1994, when he visited the first HOPE community office — the Operation HOPE Home Loan Center in Leimert Park, the upper reaches of what is commonly referred to today as South Central Los Angeles.  Rick was then a vice chairman for Union Bank, and every grant of $25,000 or more required his personal sign-off, and he would not sign-off on any grant recipient he did not personally visit himself. And so, Rick simply  jumped into his own car and drove himself into South Central, sitting in our cramped and unconditioned office (then run by Lance Triggs, who is now president of the HOPE Financial Dignity Centers globally) until he was satisfied that we were legitimate.  That is Rick Hartnack, Never too big to sit and give respect, time and even resources to what others might refer to as 'the poor.'  Rick simply saw them as different.  No better than him. Just different.

Ricks' father Carl was a legend in banking, growing and building what was then Security Pacific Bank in California.  Today, Rick builds on his father's deep legacy, establishing himself as probably one of the 10 best 'community bankers' in the nation.  With all the negative comments about bankers these days, Rick Hartnack distinguishes himself as a authentic and consistent leader who cares, gives, serves and empowers others.  If the banking industry followed his lead, we would not have a banking crisis today.
