Years ago I acquired an expansive Shona Stone Sculpture art collection from my trips to Zimbabwe, starting with my first trip led by the late Rev. Leon Sullivan and the Leon Sullivan Summits, or what use to be called the African-African American Summit, seeking to connect Africa with her Diaspora. Years later, I have been able to gather together a reasonably inspiring collection of Shona Stone sculpture arts, featuring prominent and not so prominent African artists alike.
This special reception at the Commerce Club in Atlanta, a club where I am proud to be a member, commemorated the start of a long-term relationship between me and my Bryant Group Africa collection, and the Commerce Club. I have loaned a number of pieces from my private collection which are now on long-term display at the Commerce Club.
A special recognition to Colin Thompson of Zimbabwe Gallery for bringing some of his incredible pieces, from which individuals present were able to purchase. And guests purchase just under half his inventory on this particular evening, with proceeds benefited the John Hope Bryant Family Foundation and the Andrew Young Foundation. Pieces from Zimbabwe Gallery reside in the collections of Hank and Billye Aaron, Ambassador Andrew Young and Carolyn Young, and myself amongst others.
