Following very substantive remarks around the Jobs Bill by President Obama and Vice President Biden at the White House yesterday, I had the opportunity to brief HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan around our work in and with respect to the ongoing mortgage crisis. As part of our HOPE Coalition America (HCA), emergency financial and economic disaster prepared, response and recovery division at Operation HOPE, our Mortgage HOPE Crisis Hotline has helped modify or completely restructure more than $450 million in mortgages in this crisis.

The Mortgage HOPE Crisis Hotline, staffed by trained and HUD certified Operation HOPE counselors, has worked with more than 100,000 borrowers and clients to date. The Mortgage Hotline, now national in scope, was originally launched as a result of the recommendation and local leadership of one Eric Garcetti, President of the Los Angeles City Council. Operation HOPE was founded in Los Angeles, and specifically South Central Los Angeles, following the civil unrest of 1992.  Good things come from South Central Los Angeles.

I look forward to following up with Secretary Donovan in the weeks to come. He seems to be a very good man who deeply cares about the issues at hand. This is underscored by the fact that he was the last Cabinet member for the President to leave the White House following the afternoon session. I reminded the Secretary that the late and legendary HUD Secretary Jack Kemp served on one of my first Operation HOPE boards. He smiled, tipping his hand to another good man.

Onward and with HOPE
