Mina Al Oraibi is Washington DC Bureau Chief for Asharq Alawsat Newspaper. Previously she served as the Current Affairs Journalist at the international, London-based Asharq Alawsat Newspaper.

In addition to covering political and diplomatic affairs in London, Al Oraibi has a special interest in Iraqi developments. Amongst her recent work, was a series of articles on Iraqi refugees, the development of American military doctrine, along with high profile interviews including British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki. Al Oraibi often has assignments in the Middle East, Europe and the United States.

She often participates in conferences on the role of the media, including events sponsored by ‘Alliance of Civilizations’ and the East West Institute’s 6th Annual World Security Conference held in Brussels February 2009. An Iraqi-Briton, Al-Oraibi was born in Sweden and raised in Iraq, Australia and Saudi Arabia, before moving to the United Kingdom.

She was awarded a Distinction for her MA History Dissertation on the 1958 coup d’etat in Iraq from University College London, where she also completed her Bachelors of Arts in History.

Mina Al Oraibi is a member of the Forum of Young Global Leaders, and the co-founders HRH Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, Professor Pekka Himanen of Finland and John Hope Bryant, founder of Operation HOPE, along with the board of directors of Global Dignity, were honored to name her the Global Dignity Special Advisor for Media.
