Forum encouraged free enterprise and urban entrepreneurship in inner cities, as part of a series of forums across the nation.

New Orleans, LA – DATE – Springing from the success of the first Urban Entrepreneurship Summit in Newark, NJ, hosted by the White House Business Council, held at Rutgers University, Operation HOPE (HOPE) participated in the White House Urban Entrepreneurship Forum held in New Orleans, LA today, with full support from Mayor Mitch Landrieu. The purpose of this event was to discuss and share "best practices' with urban entrepreneurs, and to hear their feedback on how the Obama Administration, local government and the private sector can best support their growth and success in the global economy.

In addition to the White House, the summit featured a wide array of partners including The City of New Orleans Mayor's Office, Xavier University of Louisiana,  which hosted the event, Urban League of Greater New Orleans, New Orleans Business Alliance, 100 Urban Entrepreneurs, Operation HOPE, and multiple federal agencies. Derek Douglas and Michael Blake, leader for this special urban entrepreneurship summit and forum series, were also present and participated in the program.

“Since 2005, in our efforts to assist Gulf Coast small businesses and its residents to economically rebuild their businesses and lives after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, Operation HOPE through our HOPE Coalition America (HCA) Initiative has assisted over 150,000 people with small business coaching, homeowners' recovery services, personal finance counseling, and BP claims applications,” John Hope Bryant, Operation HOPE Founder, Chairman and CEO noted. “We now gather, pleased to play a role in support of a White House to help harness the talent that can be found in urban, rural and disenfranchised communities in order for us to out-innovate the rest of the world.”

HOPE is America’s leading provider of financial literacy and empowerment programs. Through programs designed to teach individuals and families how to best manage their money as well as encouraging financial industries services to provide resources to under served communities the nonprofit  has reached more than 1.4 million people.

President Obama’s central focus is on stimulating economic recovery and helping America emerge a stronger and more prosperous nation. The current economic crisis is the result of many years of irresponsibility, both in government and in the private sector. As we look toward the future, we must confront the many dimensions of this crisis while laying the foundation for a new era of responsibility and transparency.

The next Urban Entrepreneurship Forum will be held in Atlanta, GA on Friday, July 29, 2011.
