HOPE (4673) provides free assistance to anyone who seeks it

Atlanta, GA – May 9, 2011 –Responding to the need of individuals impacted by recent sequence of tornadoes and storm

s in the south, financial literacy and economic triage nonprofit Operation HOPE (HOPE) through HOPE Coalition America (HCA) has activated the HOPE Disaster Assistance Hotline — 888-388-HOPE (4673) — to aid those seeking ongoing financial assistance, support and guidance.

"HCA is part of a strong network of agencies focused on recovery.  Helping people piece together their financial information in a tangible way can help them get back on their feet in a timely fashion,” said HCA Director Jason Yancey.

Through the national hotline and collaborating with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the American Red Cross, National Voluntary Organizations Active In Disasters (NVOAD), the California Service Corporation, and H&R Block, HOPE will receive calls and coordinate one-on-one assistance utilizing a network of volunteers from the banking, insurance and financial services industry.

HOPE Coalition America’s free financial services include:

• Assistance with obtaining lost or destroyed documents
• Emergency budget guidance and credit management
• Assistance working with one’s creditors
• Referrals to government and private agencies
• Insurance claims assistance
• How to apply for loan modifications
• How to avoid foreclosure
• How to sell a house and purchase an affordable home
• How to restructure one’s existing debt and obligations

In April, 2011 HOPE and FEMA renewed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to strengthen and expand the financial counseling resources available to help individuals and families prepare for disasters and recover in the shortest possible time. Read the agreement here.

Established after the attacks of September 11, and active in every major national disaster since then, HCA is the only financial emergency preparedness and recovery service in the country.
