HOPE and OSD partnership
In October of 2010, Dr. Tony Smith, Superintendent of Schools for Oakland Unified School District (OUSD), and Operation HOPE (HOPE) signed a progressive memorandum of understanding, encouraging all 4th – 12th graders in Oakland Unified to be educated in financial literacy and the Banking on Our Future program (BOOF).

Over the past six months, staff from OUSD and HOPE have worked tirelessly to promote the benefits of BOOF to OUSD educators and our joint efforts are paying off. By June, 2011, over 1,720 Oakland students will have been empowered by HOPE Corps Volunteers in the BOOF financial literacy empowerment program, and plans are in the works to educate students attending summer school.

The OUSD/HOPE partnership will grow in the 2011-2012 school year and aims to reach over 2,400 students.

HOPE thanks for OUSD and its leadership for their commitment to providing financial literacy empowerment to the youth of Oakland and we look forward to continuing our new friendship for years to come.
