HOPE Mid-Atlantic Board Members Ed Stucky, Ted Carter and Barry Wides (Deputy Comptroller for the U.S. Comptroller of the Currency) did an amazing job engaging with and teaching the inner-city young bright lights at T. Roosevelt Senior High School in Washington, D.C. recently.  Here is a testimonial from board member Ed Stucky, and then a testimonial from the school principal follows.

"Did a BOOF Day today with Barry Wides and Ted Carter.  The kids really came alive on the investing section – wanted to know about the stock market vs. savings accounts, risk returns, etc.  I was trying to find out what an investment in Wal-Mart would be worth if you bought at the beginning and held on.   Check out the email string below for the answer.  Amazing.  A lot of the blue collar workers with Wal-Mart got paid in stock in the early days…

…By the way, I finally got the information on Wal-Mart.   If you had purchased $100 of Wal-Mart stock in 1971, you would have $207,037.63 today, or a 206,937.63% return.  If you would have bought 100 shares, your investment would be worth $5,590,016  today…"

Greetings!

I just wanted to extend my gratitude to each of you for your presentations to my classes last week.  The students very much appreciated the interactive nature of your presentations.  In particular, they liked learning about the stock market.  Erick mentioned investing again today and he was so inspired that he even came to school wearing a tie on Friday!

We really appreciate that you took the time to come in and share your expertise with us.  It’s really important that students are exposed to professionals from different fields.  I hope you’ll decide to come back to Roosevelt again in the future.  Thank you again.

Best Regards,
