This morning, Thursday, April 21 at 11:00AM EST, the U.S. President’s Advisory Council on Financial Capability will be meeting in Washington D.C.  I am proud to serve President Barack Obama as a member of this important Council, and serve on 3 of its 4 committees.  I invite you to tune in via webcast to learn more about what the Council is doing overall.

With regards to my participation on the PACFC Partnership Subcommittee, you will hear about tangible results tied to the recommendation to President Obama about the need to create state and local financial literacy councils, working closely with the federal Council.  While I will not be present myself for today's meeting, I am honored to have as my guest, Fulton County Chairman Eaves (Georgia's largest county in the state), who will be present to confirm his intent to create a Fulton County Financial Literacy Council.  Additionally, the mayor of the City of Miami will also confirm their intent to create the Mayor of Miami Financial Literacy Council.

A special thank you as well to the City of Detroit City Council and U.S. Congresswoman Elenore Holmes-Norton of the District of Columbia, both of whom today signal strong support and encouragement for the creation of local government financial literacy councils.  More to report following today's Council meeting.  Commendations to Council Chairman John Rogers and Council Members, and specifically Council Committee Partnership Chair Carrie Schwab-Pomerantz for their leadership today.

I hope you will have the opportunity to log on to the webcast through the Department of Education's USTREAM Channel under "Upcoming Shows" at:

A special thank you to Secretary Duncan and the U.S. Department of Education for hosting today's meeting of the Council in Washington, D.C.
