David Gamlin is the Director of Education and Youth Development for New Detroit, Inc. As Director, Mr. Gamlin is responsible to develop and support initiatives that improve the education and learning community in Detroit. This work is currently reflected in the executive committee role for Excellent Schools Detroit (ESD). ESD is a coalition of community leadership comprised of many of the largest philanthropic organizations along with much of the civic, business and education leadership in this region focused on developing excellent education options for all of Detroit’s school aged children.
 
Mr. Gamlin facilitates the work New Detroit is doing to expand financial literacy education through Operation Hope and its Banking On Our Future program targeting school aged children for training in money matters. Mr. Gamlin also directs the New Detroit Camp Enterprise (s) at Michigan State University and the University of Michigan for enterprising high school students. This experience has evolved into one of the nation’s premiere experiential learning opportunities for Detroit high school students, empowering young people in business, leadership development and college preparation.
 
Mr. Gamlin spent 13 years as a highly successful institutional global equity trader for two major Wall Street investment firms. He followed that experience with seven years in operations and sales and marketing with two Detroit area automotive suppliers.
 
Mr. Gamlin is a life-long Detroiter graduating from Cass Technical high school and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hillsdale College in International Business and French.
