Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed and packed house come together at Auburn Public Library for release of Andrew Young Papers.

What a moment. Such a proud moment for me and all who love Ambassador Andrew Young. Today hundreds packed the room at Auburn Library for release of more the 50 years of historic papers from Young’s life. These papers cover his key role as pastor and teacher, a key aide to Dr. Martin L. King, Jr, first black congressman from the South since Reconstruction, first Black UN Ambassador from the U.S., mayor of Atlanta responsible for $70 billion invested in Atlanta, co-chair and the man that brought the Olympic Games to Atlanta, recipient of more than 100 honorary doctorate degrees, the man who made Atlanta an international city, namesake for the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University, and most recently a recipient of a national Emmy Award for his Andrew Young Presents documentary series. This is just a “short list” of his countless contributions to society an accomplishments in public life.

Young’s family is here too, along with Andrea Young, who is executive director of the Andrew Young Foundation.

Honored to call this great man, my mentor and great friend, and the Global Spokesman for Operation HOPE.
