At a time when many bankers are trying to stay out of the light, so to speak, Jim Wells, chairman and CEO of Sun Trust Bank, chooses to lead. As a member of the FINANCIAL SERVICES ROUNDTABLE, Jim received a call from my friend Steve Bartlett, CEO of FSR.  Tied to our HOPE-FSR Framework Agreement, Steve asked Jim to consider making a leadership commitment around our signature initiative with FSR, the Operation HOPE Financial Literacy Empowerment Center, Ebenezer (at The King Center).  Jim Wells did that and more.

Sun Trust made a $1 million, 5-year commitment to support the HOPE Center, Ebenezer, which will represent our national flagship center, and the moral center of our future work.  But Jim didn't stop there.  Jim got on the phone, calling his colleagues, and soon HOPE had more than $4 million in long-term commitments towards our $10 million, 5-year goal ($5 million of which represents the FSR partnership commitment portion).

Today, Jim Wells serves on the national board of directors for Operation HOPE, and has recently agreed to serve as Board Leadership Chairman around a very special project to me and HOPE.

Thank you Jim Wells, for leading, when others have not.

Onward with HOPE

John Hope Bryant
