On February 17th, MasterCard Worldwide and Operation HOPE signed the first global framework agreement designed to demonstrate the payment card industry’s commitment to financial literacy and empowerment through highly visible principles and the best practice efforts of MasterCard and HOPE.

In line with HOPE’s partnership with the Financial Services Roundtable, this framework consists of six partnership principles that focus on MasterCard and HOPE working collectively to achieve the goal of universal financial literacy in the U.S. and around the globe, consumer protection, volunteer commitment from MasterCard and their issuers, adult financial education and empowerment, higher education, and digital and web support.

The event kicked off with a speech by John Hope Bryant to MasterCard’s Business Resource Group LEAD (“Lifting Employees of Africa Decent”) with a message of each member being the first of 5,000 volunteers to lead the MasterCard’s commitment to volunteering and serving as role models for youth.

MasterCard CEO Ajay Banga then joined John Hope Bryant to lead a roundtable discussion with MasterCard’s senior product development team focused on developing unprecedented global products and services for the undeserved and unbanked.  From mobile phone products to establishing a non-cash system for the poor, products and services that will enable the poor to be the foundation for global reset.
