My friend, mentor and "shero" the late Dr. Dorothy I. Height, chairwoman-emeritus of the National Council of Negro Women, would indeed be very pleased I believe around the dedication this week of the Washington, D.C. Post Office in her name and honor.  I was glad I could be present for the ceremony while in Washington, D.C., and specifically want to commend Secretary Alexis Herman for helping to make this happen for our friend Dr. Height.

I remember my time with Dr. Height like it was yesterday, but one statement by her, about me and Operation HOPE remains stronger than any other; "John, you remind me of a dreamer with a shovel in his hands."  No greater compliment.

When people want to know where I got my penchant for being bi-partisan and working with everyone, and every President, be they Republican or Democrat, simply look to the more than four decade-long leadership model of one Dr. Dorothy I. Height.
