On October 27, 2010, students from the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University (AYS) spent a morning volunteering at the B.E.S.T. Academy at Benjamin S. Carson, an Atlanta Public School. They were there to teach 100 students at the all-male middle school invaluable lessons provided in Operation HOPE’s Banking on our Future (BOOF) curriculum on personal financial skills.

The 25 AYS student volunteers represented the PMAP Community Network, led by Roshonda Carter, graduate student (Public Management and Policy), American Humanics led by Catherine Slocum, graduate student (Public Management and Policy), and the Economics Department Graduate Students Association, led by Elizabeth Searing, graduate student (Economics). The AYS students were required to prepare the lesson plans they would use to lead their classes in the three-hour training sessions.
