Per Scholas is a non-profit social venture dedicated to using technology to improve the lives of people in low-income communities. Operating out of locations in the South Bronx and Miami, their vocational training, distribution and recycling programs work together to empower children, and help adults build living-wage careers. Per Scholas provides recycling for computer equipment, and thereafter distributes them free to low-income families.

Families with children in grades 6-8, who qualify for free or reduced lunch are eligible. Families are required to attend 3 workshops on computer basics and digital literacy for a total of 8 hours to receive a computer. The HOPE Center, Harlem-New York hosted the program in July.  Seventeen families participated in the program and received computers on Saturday, July 31, 2010.

The HOPE Financial Literacy Empowerment Center, Harlem-New York, is managed by Donna Lynn Burton, Vice President, and is located at 2511 Frederick Douglass Blvd, New York, New York 10030.  Their telephone number is (917)477-2800, or you can reach the manager by email at donna.burton@operationhope.org, or Operation HOPE online at www.operationhope.org.
