Operation HOPE founder and bestselling author John Hope Bryant focuses discussion
on the “power of giving”

“Union Bank has supported our mission to bring economic opportunity and education to underserved communities across the country since the beginning,” said John Bryant. “Pierre Habis’ role on our National Board of Directors has been key for determining the long term success of HOPE’s “silver rights” mission to eradicate poverty and empower the underserved. The work that you do is “love leadership” in action. Doing well, by doing good.”
During the meeting, Bryant shared his secrets to success, founded on love-based leadership: Loss Creates Leaders (there can be no strength without legitimate suffering), Fear Fails (only respect and love leads to success), Love Makes Money (love is at the core of true wealth), Vulnerability is Power (when you open up to people they open up to you), and Giving is Getting (the more you offer to others, the more they will give back to you).
Another event highlight was Union Bank’s volunteer announcement. Results of the bank’s “volunteer challenge” exceeded expectations as the goal of getting employees to sign up for 2,300 hours of community service in the second quarter was shattered. A true testament to Union Bank’s commitment to service and the community, employees will donate over 6,000 hours to community-based organizations. Many of these hours will go to HOPE, as bank employees from all levels will go into the classrooms to teach HOPE’s award-winning Banking on Our Future curriculum. Their high level of commitment was also reflected by the sea of printed polo’s and T-shirts emblazoned with “Union Bank, Proud to Support Operation HOPE.”
“Our volunteer challenge demonstrates Union Bank’s desire to make a difference in our communities,” said Union Bank Executive Vice President Pierre Habis, head of Retail Branch Banking. “The fact that our employees have surpassed our volunteer challenge goals is a testament to the passion and commitment of our employees.”
A long time supporter of Operation HOPE, Union Bank was one of the first financial institutions to come on board. In 1992, Union Bank joined Operation HOPE and Nix Check Cashing in a unique alliance to create services for adult and youth financial services in underserved communities. The March 26, 2010 event was held by Union Bank to support its efforts to affect positive change in the communities it serves.
