On the birthday of President Barack Obama the Obama Administration is “working.” A day on, not a day off, as has often been said about Dr. King’s birthday.

Here we sit at The White House, in the Old Executive Office Building, at a green jobs, green economy policy briefing organized by my friend Michael Blake, from the Office of Public Engagement.

Speakers included HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan, Tina Tchen, who leads the Office of Public Engagement at The White House (good people), and all of this led by my friend and fellow YGL Van Jones, who is the President’s advisor on green jobs (brilliant, and one of the national leaders in this space). A special recognition to my friend and mentor civil rights icon Dr. Dorothy I. Height, who graced the meeting with her presence.

Finally, kudos to Rev. Lennox Yearwood, president and CEO of the Hip Hop Caucus, who was the inspiration for this meeting and his “Green the Block/Fade to Green” initiative.

Bravo and good job Michael Blake. You serve your country well.
