This week I had  the distinct pleasure of speaking before a group of truly inspired teachers and the Pennsylvania Governor's Institute for Financial Education – teachers and educators who are truly changing the world. But to "change the world" you have to be a little crazy.  Crazy, like the brilliance of Dr. King, or Nelson Mandela or Gandhi.  I republish this Apple inspired poem in the honor of these teachers who are teaching young people in Pennsylvania financial literacy, or what we at Operation HOPE increasingly call the "language of money.''

A special kudos to former State director Hilary Hunt, and present State Director of the Office of Financial Education, Mary Rosenkrans. Leadership matters.  Well, here it goes…

To The Crazy Ones…

Here’s to the crazy ones.

The misfits.

The rebels.

The troublemakers.

The round pegs in the square holes.

The ones who see things differently.

They’re not fond of rules.

And they have no respect for the status quo.

You can praise them, disagree with them. Quote them,

disbelieve them, glorify them or vilify them.

About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them.

Because they change things.

They invent.    They imagine. They heal.

They explore.  The create.      They inspire.

They push the human race forward.

Maybe they have to be crazy.

How else can you stare at an empty canvas and see a work of art?

Or sit in silence and hear a song that’s never been written?

Or gaze at a red planet and see a laboratory on wheels?

While some see these people as the crazy ones, others see genius.

Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world,

are the ones who usually do…

…People say I'm a little bit crazy. Well, they're right. Youv'e got to be a little bit crazy to stand with God. To accomplish anything… you've got to be a little crazy. If not, fear will tie you down. Fear will debilitate you and paralize you. But with God by your side, anything is possible.
