White House 2008 002There is no greater crisis for black America than our crisis of education, or the lack thereof. 70% of black men, and 50% of all African-Americans and Hispanics, are dropping out of high school, and it is unacceptable.  My friend Quentin Lawson, executive director fo the National Alliance of Black School Educators, agrees with me.

Thanks to an introduction by my brilliant government relations and policy chief, Jena Roscoe, we are now connected and working on an important future partnership together.  Specifically, we are looking at a possible powerful alliance HOPE's new 5 MILLION KIDS initiative, co chaired by icons Ambassador Andrew Young and Quincy Jones, designed to help break the back of the high school drop out generation in America, and to "make smart sexy again."  Another important 5MK national partner is America's Promise, led by Mrs. Alma Powell.

Together, we can make a difference. Stay tuned for additional developments between Operation HOPE and NABSE. In the meantime, spread the word about 5 MILLION KIDS, or 5MK as we call it.

Onward with HOPE
