Last night I was proud to join my friend and fellow "visionary" in the fight to advance our people, and our world, at his NV Magazine Awards Gala in New York, where I was honored to receive the Vision Award for my work with Operation HOPE and the creation of the U.S. President's Advisory Council on Financial Literacy.

At this event, NV Magazinehonors the best and brightest in business. This year's event will include; Vivica A. Fox, a film & television actress and producer who is making it happen as a Hollywood entrepreneur; NBA star Stephon Marbury, who has created the affordable ($14.98) "Starbury" sneaker line to fulfill the needs of poor and middle-class children; R. Donahue Peebles, CEO of the Peebles Corp., the nation's largest African American-owned real estate development company. He has a net worth of $500 million, properties from Las Vegas to Miami and is the recent purchaser of the Aqueduct racetrack in New York; John Hope Bryant who founded Operation HOPE and is the Vice Chairman of the U.S. President's Advisory Council on financial literacy. His organization is directly responsible for over $400 million in funds for educating adults and children about financial literacy and has HOPE centers all over the nation and South Africa. Tiffany Warren, the Chief Diversity Officer for the Omnicom Group. She is also the founder of ADCOLOR® and The ADCOLOR® Awards, which honors people of color in the advertising, marketing and media industries; Shawn & Shane Ward, founders of DETNY Shoes, these are two young men who happen to be identical twins, that have a shoe line at Macy's and their own store in trendy SOHO NYC.

The "NV Awards 2K9" marks NV Magazine's10th anniversary, and will salute urban professionals who have demonstrated strong leadership in business and have used their vision to achieve remarkable inroads within their industry.
