los Angeles, CA – May, 2008 – Keynoting a morning address to attendees at the Financial Services Roundtable 2008 Spring Meeting, on May 1, Operation HOPE (HOPE) Founder and CEO, and U.S. Advisory Council on Financial Literacy, Vice Chairman, John Hope Bryant, “raised the bar”, challenging financial industry executives to get involved in financial literacy education.

More than 110 CEO’s and decision makers gathered at the St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort in Dana Point, CA to discuss policy issues relevant to this country’s financial stability. Bryant’s topic, Consumer Choice Meets Consumer Smarts, focused on strengthening the position of underserved communities.

"Silver rights," is in everyone’s enlightened self interest, Bryant asserted. "Not all subprime lending is bad; in fact, responsible subprime lending has done more to lift poor people out of poverty than almost anything else in the last 50 years. The problem has been irresponsible subprime lending, predatory subprime lending, and financially illiterate prime and subprime borrowers. The first rule of silver rights is to be financially literate. Understanding finances is important to you each and every one of us privately and it is to our nation, publicly. In order for business to grow and our economy to grow, it is imperative that we all need to be financially literate.

The Financial Services Roundtable reflects developments shaping the financial services sector. It represents 100 of the largest integrated financial companies providing banking, insurance and investment product and service to the American services consumer. This year’s annual meeting highlighted "Liquidity, Housing, Politics and the Markets". Roundtable member companies provide accounting directly for $17.1 trillion in managed assets, $888 billion in revenue and 2 million jobs.
