Mvc005f_2I just love this photo. My new friend Anne Haley, Esq, a prominent Los Angeles attorney whom I met through yet another brilliant friend, Lisa Elliott, Esq, daughter to famed congresswoman, and friend, Lucille Roybal-Allard, is pictured here with "Uncle Alex" as she lovingly calls him. Of course, I am referring to the late, great Alex Haley here.

Anne and family recently traveled through Knoxville, Tennessee, where the statute is on permanent display. It was the first time she actually had an opportunity to visit it in person, and as you can see, she was "thrilled." She noted how our friend and sculptor Tina Allen "captured him so perfectly, …even his hands," she wrote to me.

Anne Haley and family, you have good reason to be proud. Kids, do your research on Alex Haley. My friend, actor LeVar Burton, and his brilliance as an artist was really introduced for the first time to the world at large through his unforgettable depiction as Kunta Kinte in the epic ROOTS.

Alex Haley was and remains a great and important man in American (and not just African-American) history.

Onward with HOPE
